Mary currently serves as a Senior Vice President at the Healthcare Finance Management Association (HFMA).
In this role, Mary is responsible for all content created and delivered to the industry and the HFMA membership. This includes digital content, publications, professional development and certification along with educational offerings.
Mary also served as Global Leader of the Strategic Advisory Healthcare practice for DXC Technology. Prior to the creation of DXC in April 2017, Mary served as Vice President of Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s (HPE) Global Healthcare Practice. In this role Mary is responsible for the overall HPE healthcare strategy, the development and maintenance of vertical industry offerings, leading thought-leadership activities, establishing partnerships and joint go-to-market with the larger healthcare eco-system, and building capacity to scale and industrialize healthcare solutions to support client transformation in the rapidly changing healthcare and digital
landscape- from big data, to cybersecurity, to hybrid infrastructure, SaaS and workplace productivity. Global revenues in this line of business exceed $2B in services alone, separate and distinct from hardware revenues.
Previously, Mary served as a senior executive at Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), the world’s largest health care provider with annual revenues of over $36B. In her role as Chief Program Officer, Mary managed a health information technology portfolio representing an annual budget of over $150M and generating a return of over $900M to HCA. From 2010-2014 Mary built a team of over 200 Healthcare Information Technology professionals to serve the needs of the HCA enterprise delivering all portfolio projects on time and within budget based upon fully developed business cases. Another key accomplishment included successful government meaningful use audits in over 40 hospitals resulting in zero pay-backs. In addition, Mary managed the greenfield development of a clinical data warehouse to support the long term strategies of HCA. This included the formation of a data monetization business case to create new non-operating revenue streams for the company.
Mary’s earlier role at HCA was in the Shared Services Group where she served as Vice President of Implementation. In this capacity Mary directed and managed a field based team to implement multiple shared services across the enterprise including revenue cycle and accounts receivable migrations, payroll consolidations, ERP HR/Payroll implementation and collections system replacement. As part of this role, Mary was involved in developing internal controls to support SOX compliance and disaster recovery. Mary’ s financial acumen and credentials include serving as a member of HCA Strategic Portfolio Committee.
Earlier in her career Mary was Senior Manager and Vice President in the Health Provider and Managed Care Practice at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young. Also, Mary has had day-to-day operations experience as Director of Ambulatory Care Services and Director of Occupational Therapy Services at Christ Hospital and Medical Center a member of the Advocate Health Systems in the Chicago area.
Mary’s governance experience includes Chair, Federation of American Hospitals Health Information Technology Task Force (2 0112013). She served as the 2016-2017 National Chair for the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) a 40,000 member organization. Mary has also served as Chair of the National Audit and Finance Committee and the National Compensation Committee for HFMA. She served as a National Board Member and chaired numerous other committees for the HFMA (2006-2016). Other prior board positions include the HCA Foundation Board (2013-2014) and Vision Consulting, (2012-2014). Mary currently serves on a portfolio company board for Riverside Partners,LLC. She is a designated fellow of the Healthcare Finance Management Association (FHFMA) and a Certified Health Care Financial Professional from HFMA.
Mary graduated with honors from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University in 1987 with a Masters in Management and course concentrations in Finance and Marketing. Her bachelor’s degree is from the University of Illinois. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Occupational Therapy and received an award for Outstanding Personal and Professional Achievement.
Mary lives in Nashville, is married and enjoys golfing and downhill skiing.
