Janet Haas is currently the Director of Epidemiology at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, NY. She previously served as Director of Infection Prevention and Control at Westchester Medical Center, a 650 bed tertiary/quarternary care facility north of New York City, and Assistant Professor of Medicine at New York Medical College. Dr. Haas is an associate editor of the American Journal of Infection Control, and co-editor of the ‘Methodology Minute’ section. She has served as the chair of the APIC Professional Development Committee and is a member of the New York State Department of Health Healthcare Associated Infections Technical Advisory Work Group; she previously served on the APIC Scientific Research Council. Dr. Haas has authored the Hand Hygiene chapter of the APIC text, as well as several peer-reviewed publications in the field of infection prevention and control. She has presented at the local, regional and national level. Her research interests include Hand Hygiene, Environmental Disinfection and Computer-aided Surveillance.
Dr. Haas earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Sage Colleges of Albany, NY, her Masters in Epidemiology from the University at Albany and her Doctorate in Nursing from Columbia University. She has been Certified in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) since 1999. Dr. Haas has earned the Fellow of APIC designation.

Dr. Carol M. McLay is the CEO of Infection Control International and is a consultant in the fields of healthcare epidemiology, infection prevention and control, and public health. Carol received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Ottawa in Canada, an MPH from Emory University, and a DrPH in epidemiology at the University of Kentucky. She is an instructor at the University of Kentucky where she shares her passion and expertise with students in the College’s of Public Health and Nursing. She devotes much of her time to the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), where she serves as the Lead Nurse Planner for their continuing education activities. She recently returned from Sierra Leone where she worked with the WHO Ebola Response Team as an Infection Prevention and Control Specialist.
Carol is an active APIC member and served as Chair of the Communications Committee from 2012-2014. She currently serves as a member of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA)‘s External Affairs Committee. She is the author of The Infection Prevention Competency Review Guide, 4th edition and the newly released Certification Study Guide, 5th edition. She is currently working on the 6th edition, which will be released in the summer of 2015. Dr. McLay resides in Lexington, Kentucky with her husband, three young children, two dogs and a very silly cat named Cookie.

Connie Steed, RN, MSN CIC is currently the corporate Director of Infection Prevention for the Greenville Health System in Greenville, South Carolina. She has contributed to clinical practice, education, and research in the field of infection prevention for more than 35 years. Connie’s recent focus and passion has been hand hygiene compliance and monitoring alternatives. This work led to improved hand hygiene compliance within her organization and multiple journal publications. Nationally, she has served on APIC’s Membership and Governmental Affairs Committee(s) and on the APIC Board as a Director and Secretary. Connie has held a number of APIC chapter offices and positions, including chapter president of two different chapters. Connie has also served on the South Carolina DHEC Hospital Infections Disclosure Act (HIDA) Advisory Committee; the NQF Steering Committee for Surgical Endorsement Maintenance project; and as APIC Liaison to the CBIC Board. She is currently serving on the CDC NHSN Work Steering Group and is the APIC Liaison to the CDC Occupational Health guidelines writing group. Connie has been the recipient of many awards for her leadership and clinical achievements including the Leadership Award from APIC and Infection Preventionist of the Year from her local chapter. She has authored several texts and abstracts and has been invited faculty at state, national and international conference.
Connie received her Bachelors and Masters Degree(s) in Nursing from Clemson University. She has been certified in infection control since 1985.

She subsequently worked as a Lecturer in Rajiv Gandhi University, Bangalore, India. She undertook further training in Masters in Healthcare Administration, ICFAI University. She received CIC Certification from Certification Board of Infection Control & Epidemiology in 2014. She has 17 years’ experience in various specialties such as Emergency, Critical care and coronary care Nursing, ENT & endoscopy department in Escorts Heart Institute and Research Center, Bangalore Baptist Hospital and Mafraq Hospital, SEHA.
